Superficial Skin Biopsy
A thin slice of a raised skin lesion is taken to the lab for further analysis at the laboratory under the microspore. It is used to identify whether a questionable skin lesion should be the cause of concern for a serious skin problem.
Cryotherapy
Using liquid Nitrogen for removing benign and malignant skin lesions has been an age-long practice in the treatment of skin disorders. The desired wart, acne, skin tag, epithelial cysts, hypertrophic scars, or psoriasis is treated with small amounts of liquid nitrogen to freeze the tissue. Patients typically experience a mild burnings sensation which quickly becomes bearable. Once the frozen skin lesion starts thawing it will gradually discolor and eventually fall off. The cosmetic effects of the procedure are generally very pleasing.
Curette and Cautery
Curette and cautery is an electro-surgery technique used to treat a variety of skin issues ranging from Seborrheic or Actinic keratoses to Pyogenic granuloma and Squamous cell carcinoma in situ. The surgical procedure involves the injection of a local anesthetic near the lesion to be treated. Once the region goes numb, the doctor will scrape off the lesion with a small and sharp, spoon-shaped tool called a curette. Patients may experience a little pressure on the skin, but nothing too painful. The specimen is then sent to the pathology laboratory for diagnosis. The wound is cauterized using an electrosurgical unit with a hot wire tip to close off the bleeding and destroy any left-over skin tumor cells.
